Binary Boy
Fill
your hard drive with music, movies and pictures! |
Binary Boy is a newsreader that finds and downloads music, pictures, movies
and any other type of file. Browse newsgroups manually or let the scheduler
download matching files while you sleep. Apply simple keyword searches,
add wildcards or even use AND, OR and NOT logic. Write a single search
rule or customize each newsgroup with its own search and filter criteria.
Instead of wasting time downloading an unwanted movie, preview it first
by downloading the first few parts and then decode it with the Dr. Binary
command. Binary Boy has built-in support for all the usual encodings
as well as the new, highly efficient yEnc and QP-Lite formats.
Binary Boy Features:
Fast - Even on a dial-up connection you can discard
thousands of unwanted subjects in minutes.
Scheduler - The built-in scheduler enables Binary Boy to connect
to the news server at a preset time, such as late at night, search for
files and disconnect when it's finished. If you have a dial-up internet
connection, Binary Boy can even dial and hang up automatically. Each
scheduled event can trigger daily or on a specific date. See the Schedule
Editor screen shot.
Easy to use - Search using single words, wildcards
or complex AND, OR and NOT rules such as (.jpg or .gif or .wav) and
"Southpark".
Flexible Searching - Create search rules that apply
to every search or create different rules for each newsgroup. See the
Search Dialog and the Group List Editor screen shots.
Flexible Filtering - Filter articles based on any line
in the header, the length of the article or the estimated size of the
decoded file.
Skip Article, Skip File and Skip
Similar commands allow you to cancel downloads already in progress.
Assembles split files - Individual parts are cached
until the complete file can be assembled. If the server doesn't have
all the parts, Binary Boy can attempt to decode the files anyway using
the Dr. Binary feature. Dr. Binary is also handy for previewing .mpg
movies without having to download the entire file.
Enc & MIME Support - Handles Base64, Quoted-Printable,
UUencoding and the newer, 20%-25% more efficient encoding methods QP
Lite and yEnc.
New Features in v1.94
Preserve bandwidth and increase search speed with a smarter, faster
header cache. Binary Boy will download only the headers you don't
already have on disk even if it has to break refreshes into multiple
server requests.
Import NZB files. Some usenet services are beginning
to export search results in NZB format. Now you can import these results
directly into the Binary Boy queue and start downloading.
Decoder operates in a separate thread, keeping the GUI more responsive,
allowing nearly continuous downloading and making better use of Hyper-Threading
processors.
BommaNews support added to decoder. BommaNews
is an encoding method similar in efficiency to yEnc. It originally
started out in Europe but is now seen on other servers around the
world.
Decoder works more efficiently with external drives such as Zip drives.
